Yes, the VLM program currently works on any computer with a browser and tablets such as iPads although it is recommended that you use a desktop computer with a standard web browser (Firefox / Chrome / Internet Explorer / Safari) for the best possible experience. Full mobile device support is expected to be available later this year.

  • How was VLM developed?

The VLM service is the online version of the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP), a research-proven lifestyle management program in which individual patients met in face-to-face counseling sessions with a skilled coach to educate and support them in their weight loss efforts. Through this intensive behavior change intervention, patients increased physical activity, improved nutrition and lost 5-7% of their body weight. Additionally, the DPP led to a 71% decrease in the progression to diabetes for individuals over 60 years old and by 58% for other adults. The DPP, funded by the National Institutes of Health, was a landmark multiyear study with 3,234 adults with pre-diabetes in 27 U.S. cities.

The University of Pittsburgh developed the DPP and then partnered with Canary Health to develop the web-based VLM service. Canary Health has been providing VLM to healthcare providers, health plans and employee wellness programs since 2006.
